You will know that your beef is raised from conception to consumption on the McNeil Ranch in Colorado’s San Luis Valley, with our operations spanning from 7,600’ to 11,000’ in elevation. Livestock Health
Primarily we strive to maintain herd health through preventive measure and by keeping cattle in optimum condition through proper feeding, grazing management, and supplementation (Vita Ferm™ mineral supplement and diatomaceous earth), as well as low-stress handling. We attempt to break actual and potential disease cycles through grazing management and maintaining optimum body condition. Pharmaceutical treatments are used if necessary, as a last resort, and we reserve the ability to use such treatments. However, any steers that are treated with antibiotics are withdrawn from the Diamond F Program, and are marketed separately. No animals marketed by Diamond F Brand Beef have been treated with or fed any antibiotics.

No unwanted additives:
All of our Diamond F steers are completely free of added hormones, antibiotics, or animal byproducts. We never treat our land with synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides, and never have. Our land was certified organic by the Colorado Department of Agriculture from 1999 to 2002, until the price of certification increased ten-fold, and we made the decision to let it expire. We still operate our land under the same protocols we did as when we were certified organic.

Happy Cattle:
Our cattle are treated humanely, with love and gratitude. Family and employees have attended low-stress livestock handling workshops, and our handling facilities are modern and up to date. In regular ultrasound testing, over 90% of the cattle in our entire McNeil Ranch herd (not just the Diamond F herd, which must receive lowest stress indicator scores to qualify).

Ultrasound testing:
We know that our beef will be tender, marbled, and juicy before we take it to the processor because we ultrasound test our live animals to determine their carcass qualities. In testing we measure the percent intramuscular fat (marbling), thickness of back-fat, tenderness, rib-eye size, and stress indicators.
